Ok, I started this blog with a series of posts about the misleading ‘Calocane report,’ (see Calocane 4: What could and should have been done differently?) I finished that post with a list and managed to write about ‘Assertive Outreach’ and ‘Prioritising Treatment’ before wandering off.
Here’s my worthy attempt to explore those other points before I inevitably get sidetracked again. Here they are.. Recruitment. Training. Leadership. Risk. The corrosive effect of woke, management-protecting policies.
Getting British mental health services to where they need to be from the cess-pit they are in now is going to be tricky because these problems I list below are NHS universal, not just specific to psychiatry.
The absolutist rule of policies – including ‘reducing restrictive practice,’ penalising nurses who restrain and seclude, DEI, ‘confidentiality’. (Series coming.)
Nazi management and Gestapo HR practices.
Promotion of incompetent, flaky, female, liberal Uni products parachuted into decision making roles they are not robust enough to perform.
Promotion of anxiety ridden, emotionally driven, risk-allergic female managers, not equipped to stand up against even the most boneheaded management diktats. (Shh. CLUE that’s why they were promoted.)
These acronyms – ECHR, WHO, CQC and so on.
Weak, captured, woke, PC parroting apologies for trade unions e.g. Unison, RCN.
The internal market and the unnatural shapes it’s been twisted and mangled into.
Targets. KPIs. Clinical Governance.
Quality Assurance or Quality Improvement or whatever bullshit name it has morphed into this week.
Whatever the process is called whereby our visionary leaders managed to turn Britain’s public services into quasi-businesses with the language and ‘ethics’ of business but unfortunately stopping short of adopting the goals and ruthless paring of incompetent managers.
All of these and more are part of the route Britain took to get into this mess. They actually uphold and maintain the mess. They guarantee that Britain will stay stuck there, unless we destroy them with extreme prejudice. I’ll touch on how to demolish all the above and more on the road to restoration.
