What is it? Drug-induced psychosis is a psychotic episode that is triggered by using drugs. The most common symptoms include visual hallucinations, disorientation and memory problems. It is indistinguishable from other psychotic states – until it magically disappears after a short time.
Here’s where we are now. These ‘patients’ are treated by MHS i.e. as though they were genuinely ill. That’s the law, that’s the MHA. Doctors and nurses have no choice.
This what they’re like on the ground. I remember admitting one patient (member of a well-known criminal family, ASPD, scrote, habitual drug user, not on MHS’ books) who set the curtains in his flat on fire because it was infested by a swarm of flying insects. Hallucination while out of its mind on drugs. Everyone in the block of flats was endangered by this tosspot’s actions. He’s just one of a hundred examples I could tell you of. The fire brigade arrived, the police nicked him, realised he was bonkers, he got sectioned, stayed in for a weekend, (because DIP almost always resolves within 48 hours) his psychotic symptoms cleared up and he walked.
I’m proposing a different treatment for them. Drunk/drug tank followed by charges. Compulsory abstinence enforced by urine tests. No MHS to be involved, because it grants them a get-out-of-jail-free card. Maybe they should have one or two free passes – along with education/lectures/nagging – because professionals don’t always know right away who is/isn’t DIP. But once the patient (and us in services) know, then they must be treated like Typhoid Mary, like those wretches who deliberately infect others with HIV. They’ve deliberately taken a substance they know will/may send them dangerously crackers and endanger members of the public’s lives.
Is anybody else thinking opium dens weren’t a bad idea, where someone (let’s make it a big, hairy, neuronally challenged bloke – or three – with a big stick) supervises people who really can’t be abstinent. Have you ever seen Inception? There’s a scene set in a modern-day version of an opium den. Come to that, the Red Dwarf episode where people are immersed for years in a total immersion video game would be even better. Let them get wasted there, endangering only themselves.
But Britain should treat wretches who are DIP pre-disposed but still take drugs, whetther at home, or in a hotel to enhance shagging their gf/prostitute, or at a gig/rave/delete as applicable as the reckless, pleasure-driven, self-regarding criminals they are. By punishment. Testing positive SHOULD = unpleasant prison sentence + fine + public flogging + loss of benefits blah. Punishment that hurts enough to dissuade. The goal (of all criminal punishments) should be to eradicate the unwanted behaviour. What a brilliant idea. All you fathers, mothers & responsible citizens out there, vote for OSMN.
